PCC's Class A CDL Training Program provides students with the skills to get a Class A CDL and become eligible for entry-level commercial driver positions. This class includes ELDT Theory and Behind-The-Wheel (BTW) training and must be completed with an FMCSA registered training program or provider such as PCC.
This course provides the ELDT Theory and Behind-the-Wheel Range and Public Road (BTW) training and includes:

ELDT Theory:
o Basic Operation
o Safe Operating Procedures
o Advanced Operating Practices
o Vehicle Systems and Reporting Malfunctions
o Non-Driving Activities

Behind-The-Wheel Range:
o Vehicle Inspection Pre-Trip/ Enroute/Post-Trip
o Straight Line Backing
o Alley Dock Backing (45/90 Degree)
o Off-Set Backing
o Parallel Parking Blind Side
o Parallel Parking Sight Side
o Coupling and Uncoupling

Public Road:
o Vehicle Controls Including: Left Turns, Right Turns, Lane Changes, Curves at Highway Speeds, and Entry and Exit on the Interstate or Controlled Access Highway
o Shifting/Transmission
o Communications/Signaling
o Visual Search
o Speed and Space Management
o Safe Driver Behavior
o Hours of Service (HOS) Requirements
o Hazard Perception
o Railroad (RR)-Highway Grade Crossing
o Night Operation
o Extreme Driving Conditions
o Skid Control/Recovery, Jackknifing,
o and Other Emergencies

*The instructor will arrange individual sessions for driving time.

Class participants must meet the following prerequisites:
o Current Driver License
o Must have a valid CDL permit (FREE online permit prep class available through PCC)
o Must hold a current DOT medical card
o Must be 18 years of age for Intrastate or 21 years of age for Interstate

Approximately 20 hours actual driving time per student.
